Where to stay for the Evian Championship

Our suggestion: stay in Évian-les-Bains for the simplest golf-focused break, or compare Thonon-les-Bains if your daily connection works.

Lausanne adds a lake crossing and Geneva adds a longer approach, so choose those bases for a wider holiday rather than proximity alone.

Choose the French shore first for a golf-centred stay

The Evian Resort Golf Club hosts the Evian Championship above Évian-les-Bains. For a visitor planning several days of golf, our suggestion is to begin the accommodation search in the town and consider the journey uphill to the tournament as a separate part of each day. A lakefront room can be appealing, but it does not put you at the golf entrance. Match the address to the current spectator approach and any officially announced transfer.

The organiser's 2027 website gives the championship dates as 8–11 July. Use the nights that suit your attendance rather than a generic summer search. Decide whether your party is here mainly for golf or for a broader Lake Geneva holiday. That decision changes how much daily travelling is sensible. A beautifully situated room across the lake may be enjoyable for one golf excursion and tiring for four early starts, particularly when you add the connection between a railway station, a boat landing and the course.

Évian-les-Bains: make the hill part of your plan

Évian-les-Bains is our first suggestion for proximity and a relatively straightforward return after golf. Inspect the property's position as well as its destination name. The championship course and lakefront are different parts of the town's geography, and elevation matters when carrying a bag or travelling with someone who finds slopes difficult. Ask the provider which route reaches the tournament transfer or entrance; then compare that with the organiser's published arrangements.

A town stay suits companions who want to spend time by the lake while the golf party watches a round. Agree how you will reconnect in the evening and whether anyone needs to return to the room during the day. For self-catering accommodation, check supermarket access and whether the kitchen has what your group needs for breakfast. For a conventional room, ask about breakfast before your intended departure. A room with a manageable connection and an easy evening meal can be a better fit than a more elaborate property with awkward movement between levels.

Thonon-les-Bains: another French-shore comparison

Thonon-les-Bains offers a second French-shore search for a wider lakeside stay. Its official tourism access page describes the regional transport links, including Geneva Airport and lake services. Our suggestion: compare Thonon when you would enjoy staying there independently of the golf, then price and plan the road or rail connection towards Évian and the final journey up to the event. Do not assume the destination's own transport information establishes a direct championship service.

From the accommodation, identify how you will reach your departure point and how late you can return comfortably. A room near the useful railway station or agreed pickup may simplify the day more than a room elsewhere in the same town. If driving, ask about accommodation parking and check the event's designated parking approach. For families, establish whether non-golf members keep the car or use local transport. That decision is especially relevant when the day includes grocery shopping, an independent outing or returning earlier than the spectators.

Lausanne: the lake crossing is only one leg

Lausanne is our suggestion for a Swiss city stay combined with a carefully planned golf visit. CGN confirms its Lausanne–Évian boat connection, and Évian's tourism office describes the crossing as about 35 minutes. That figure covers the crossing, not the journey from your room to a tournament viewing position. Add travel to the landing, boarding time, arrival in Évian, the uphill connection and entry to the golf.

2026 edition, for guidance: typical non-event-day time; allow longer on event days. CGN’s dated N1 timetable.

Check the first useful sailing and the final return for your actual day, including any disruption notices. Do not couple the last holes to a boat departure with no margin. If staying several nights, compare the cost of repeated crossings and local journeys with staying on the French side. Lausanne can work particularly well when the rest of your party wants a city holiday and only one person attends golf. For a wheelchair user or someone with reduced mobility, investigate each boarding and transfer stage with the operators rather than assuming one accessible room resolves the itinerary.

Geneva: good for a city holiday, a longer golf approach

Geneva is an option when your trip combines an airport arrival or city break with the championship. The event's own previous-year travel advice identifies Geneva International Airport as an arrival point. Our suggestion: use Geneva as your overnight base because it fits that wider plan, while calculating the repeated journey to Évian honestly. Being near the arrival airport is a different benefit from being near the course, and it may be worth separating your first or last night from your main golf stay.

For a road transfer, obtain a quote covering the intended event access point and the return journey, with luggage requirements if it also handles the airport leg. If travelling by public transport, use the appropriate operators to assemble every connection and allow for the change to local tournament access. Do not infer a championship shuttle from an airport hotel shuttle. Search by precise address: a property described as Geneva area may sit far from the terminal or the city transport point you intend to use.

Use previous arrangements to understand the shape of the trip

The organiser's practical information for the 2026 championship described public access and the Lausanne–Évian crossing. It is useful background for understanding why a lakeside base can connect to the event, but the 2027 travel instructions must settle your departure point, any shuttle and permitted vehicle approach. Our suggestion: choose accommodation whose location remains sensible even if the final shuttle details differ, rather than relying on a stop mentioned for an earlier edition.

Keep the itinerary flexible until those arrangements are clear. If a driver will collect you, agree a public pickup point allowed by the event, a contact procedure and what happens if play or your departure is delayed. For boats and trains, save the relevant return choices offline before leaving the room. A second possible departure can prevent a relaxed final hour from turning into a hurried exit. Confirm the practical detail once at booking and revisit it shortly before travelling, particularly where several operators contribute to one journey.

Compare booking terms across the lake

Enter the correct nights, guest count and children's ages before judging accommodation. When comparing France and Switzerland, make sure the currency and mandatory charges are clear in the final booking summary. Our suggestion: compare the trip total, including crossings, local connections, parking and meals, rather than letting a room price settle the decision by itself. If sharing a rental, check the actual beds and bathrooms and agree how costs will be divided.

Read cancellation deadlines, deposits and arrival requirements carefully. A late flight followed by a long transfer may be a poor match for a property with tightly restricted key collection. If you want a kitchen, verify its equipment rather than assuming every apartment includes an oven or washing machine. Ask about drying clothing after wet golf days and storing luggage after checkout. Avoid switching accommodation halfway through a short stay simply to save a small amount; moving bags between shore-side locations can take a substantial bite out of your holiday.

Families, accessibility and evenings by the lake

A family itinerary needs room for rest between rounds. Consider shorter attendance days, somewhere convenient to eat and a bedroom arrangement that lets children sleep while adults remain awake. If part of the party skips golf, discuss whether they can move independently and whether the room keys and transport plan allow an early return. A base chosen with everybody's needs in mind is more likely to make the whole holiday enjoyable.

For accessibility, ask about the property's slopes, thresholds, lifts and bathroom layout, then examine the route to the boat, station or vehicle. Contact the organiser for tournament-specific arrangements and assistance. An accessible room on one shore does not establish a suitable journey to a hilly course on the other. Read the Evian Championship hub, Evian Resort venue guide and our practical guides alongside your accommodation shortlist. Let a comfortable door-to-door plan determine which room you reserve.
