Dublin suits a city holiday with golf excursions, provided you organise the final road connection to The K Club.
The right base begins with the approach to Straffan
The K Club's official address is Straffan, County Kildare. That is the essential starting point when comparing accommodation for the Irish Open: the host is not in central Dublin, and arriving at a Kildare railway station still leaves a local journey. Our suggestion: choose a nearby town if golf occupies most of your trip, or choose Dublin when its city activities are a substantial part of the holiday. In either case, settle the final transfer before accepting restrictive room terms.
Map an entire attendance day rather than the drive between two destination names. Begin at the room, include breakfast, reach your vehicle or departure point, follow the tournament's authorised arrival arrangement and allow for walking after entry. The return deserves equal attention. A rural room can suit a driver very well while leaving a visitor without a car reliant on repeated pickups. Compare the whole-party cost across the number of golf days, including parking, local transfers and any late collection charge.
Straffan: our first search for a golf-focused stay
Straffan is our suggestion when you want to keep close to the host village. The K Club is a substantial resort, so closeness to its grounds does not tell you which championship gate spectators will use. Ask the accommodation provider about the address and likely approach, then compare that advice with the organiser's final travel information. Walking should be a route you have established, not a benefit inferred from two nearby map pins.
For a several-night stay, inspect how the property supports ordinary routines. Can you get breakfast before leaving? Is there somewhere to prepare a simple supper, dry waterproofs and store bags? If your group brings a car, confirm parking and whether all vehicles are included. Our suggestion: a modest place with a clear transport arrangement is preferable to a remote rental chosen only for more bedrooms. Check the bed configuration, key handover and host contact details, especially if members of the party arrive independently or after a late flight.

Naas: a Kildare town base with a road leg
Naas is an alternative for visitors who want a town base in County Kildare. Into Kildare's official visitor material places it within the county's accommodation and visitor geography. Our suggestion: compare a Naas stay when its property, meal options and your planned vehicle arrangement fit the group. Do not assume that a larger town means either cheaper accommodation or a dedicated event service; those are questions for your chosen dates and the organiser's instructions.
Each golf day needs a connection from the property towards Straffan and the championship's designated parking or arrival point. If using public transport, assemble the route through Transport for Ireland and check the final distance carefully. If pre-booking a driver, agree pickup times and the permitted collection point after play. Families should discuss who keeps the car on non-golf days and whether everyone will return together. Add both the daily road travel and accommodation parking to your cost comparison before deciding that one room is better value than another.
Maynooth: rail arrival, then the last transfer
Maynooth can suit visitors arriving through Dublin who prefer to stay in a Kildare town. Irish Rail publishes the Dublin–Maynooth route, giving you a confirmed railway connection to investigate. Our suggestion: look for accommodation with straightforward access to the point from which you will continue to the golf. The train gets you to Maynooth, not to the spectator entrance at The K Club. Organise that remaining road leg before relying on the rail option.
For the return, establish whether a driver will meet you at an event-approved collection point or whether an official spectator service fits your plans. Keep any restaurant booking flexible enough to allow a slow departure. A station-side address may simplify arrival with luggage, but consider the golf pickup and evening food as well. For a group sharing self-catering accommodation, confirm the number of actual beds and early-access arrangements if needed. The best location is the one that brings those separate journeys together with the least unnecessary movement.
Celbridge: compare the property and the exact connection
Celbridge gives you another County Kildare base to investigate. Our suggestion: compare it for a stay where the accommodation fits your group and a reliable road connection is available. Check the precise location in the destination search; a name in the listing title may cover a much wider area than the walkable centre. Into Kildare's county map is useful for orienting the towns around Straffan, but it should not replace a travel-date journey plan.
The golf itinerary runs from your door towards the published event arrival arrangement, followed by any required transfer and the security approach. Ask a driver what its quote includes, particularly the return pickup and waiting if your departure changes. If you intend to use buses, check operating days and return options in the official planner rather than assuming a town-to-town link works for early golf. For companions staying behind, consider food, independent transport and room access. A convenient vehicle connection for spectators should not leave the rest of the holiday party stranded.
Dublin: worthwhile when the city is part of the trip
Dublin is our suggestion for a mixed holiday in which golf is an excursion rather than the only activity. It can be useful when part of the party wants a city day, but the daily trip to The K Club must be built into the plan. A central address is not an event transfer booking. Confirm the road connection or the rail-and-road combination, departure point and return procedure before making a room non-refundable.
Choose the Dublin neighbourhood around the transport you will actually use and the activities planned for non-golf days. An airport arrival, ferry arrival and city-centre evening may each involve a different part of the city. Avoid selecting a property solely because it looks close to one of those. For several consecutive golf days, compare a Kildare stay even if your international transport arrives in Dublin. One journey at each end of the holiday can be easier than repeating a longer city-to-course movement morning and evening.
When to reserve and what the rate should cover
Start accommodation planning when you know the attendance dates you want and the transport approach that will support them. Our suggestion: use a clearly cancellable reservation while finalising tickets and local connections, paying attention to the actual deadline rather than a broad flexible label. Search with every guest and all required nights. Include the night before an early golf start if you would otherwise be arriving tired or vulnerable to a delayed connection.
Read the deposit schedule, minimum stay and any special event conditions. Ask whether breakfast, parking, towels and cleaning are included where relevant. If sharing a house, agree the allocation of rooms and payment responsibilities before somebody commits for everyone. A ticket, accommodation and transport remain separate purchases unless a package specifically combines them. Check the organiser and contract terms for any packaged offer. For budget decisions, compare costs per person across the whole stay, not the most eye-catching nightly figure shown before taxes and transport are added.
A comfortable Kildare stay for the whole party
For families, a kitchen, a quiet sleeping area and manageable evening food can make several golf days easier. Confirm what is actually supplied and whether the property can accommodate the ages and number of children travelling. Plan where wet coats and footwear will dry. If adults want different attendance days, check room keys and transport so one person can leave or return without disrupting everybody else. A short first visit can help children discover what they enjoy about spectating.
Visitors needing accessible rooms should request specific entrance, lift and bathroom information. Join that with a suitable vehicle and the event's spectator access arrangements, contacting the organiser where assistance is required. A nearby room with an unsuitable final approach is not a complete solution. Before reserving, read the Irish Open hub, K Club venue guide and our practical guides. Let the accommodation support an enjoyable golf day from breakfast to the last journey home.
