Compare the complete journey to your room, and use an overnight stop if a late arrival would make the transfer rushed.
Compare journeys to the room, not just flights
A larger choice of flights can make Dublin or Cork attractive, but the flight is only the first part of the arrival. Add baggage collection, the transfer to a coach or railway station, the intercity journey and the final approach to your accommodation. Compare those stages before deciding that the cheapest fare is the most useful option.
Think about which attendance day matters most. A late arrival before an early Ryder Cup departure puts several moving parts close together. Our preference is to reach the base the previous day with time to settle in. If the flight cannot support that, an airport or city overnight can be a sensible purchase rather than an inconvenience.
Keep the return journey in the comparison. A convenient inward flight is less appealing if getting back requires leaving Limerick before the end of the golf you have paid to watch. Match both airport journeys to the nights you will book.
Dublin Airport: consider a direct regional coach
Dublin Airport’s official coach directory lists services towards Limerick. It is a useful starting point for finding the current operators and booking routes for your dates. Check the operator’s own timetable and exact city stop: different services can leave you in different parts of Limerick, changing the final journey to the room.
Read the rules on luggage, seat booking and changes if the flight is late. A flexible fare may be worth considering where a flight arrival and coach departure are on separate bookings. Allow time to find the departure area after collecting baggage rather than choosing a connection based on the aircraft’s scheduled landing alone.
Save the operator’s contact and stop information before leaving home. If travelling with children or someone who needs assistance, confirm the facilities and boarding arrangements directly. An ordinary coach service to the city does not include Ryder Cup admission or the event’s final connection to Adare.

Dublin by rail: include the station transfer
For a rail-based plan, use Irish Rail’s journey planner from the actual Dublin departure station to the Limerick destination you need. The airport is a separate starting point, so allow for the transfer to the station, station navigation and any intercity connection. Search the complete plan instead of assuming an airport arrival puts you beside a mainline platform.
Limerick Colbert and Limerick Junction are different places. The city station may suit your accommodation, while the Junction has a separate role in the announced event transport outline. Check what your chosen train serves and whether a change is required. Do not buy a ticket on the basis of the shared word Limerick alone.
A train journey can be comfortable when there is enough time and the group understands the changes. If a flight delay makes the final connection uncertain, keep an achievable overnight alternative rather than relying on an expensive last-minute road transfer.
Cork Airport: bus to the city and Kent station
Cork Airport’s bus information identifies routes 225 and 226 linking the airport with the city, bus station and Kent railway station. Irish Rail’s airport-connections information also describes that connection. Use the current operator timetable for your travel date and check which stop and service fits the onward booking.
For rail travel towards Limerick, search from Cork Kent with the correct destination and allow for the interchange shown by the planner. Carry the whole itinerary rather than only the first departure. A through journey can contain separate boarding instructions, reserved seats or different ticket conditions; read what your booking actually supplies.
If you choose a coach instead, compare its exact boarding point and arrival stop with the railway alternative. A city transfer adds time whichever mode you choose. Do not squeeze the first night into the timetable so tightly that a modest flight delay leaves the group without a workable plan.
Driving from either airport
Car hire can be useful for a wider Irish holiday, particularly when your itinerary continues beyond Limerick after the matches. Compare the rental total with the coach or rail alternative, including airport collection, parking, fuel and possible tolls. A car that will remain parked throughout consecutive golf days may be unnecessary for a city-based visitor.
Reserve the vehicle category and transmission you can drive confidently. Check the conditions for every intended driver and ask how tolls are handled. On arrival, take time to inspect the car and learn the controls before entering unfamiliar roads. A long drive after a tiring flight is a reason to stop overnight rather than press on to recover a room booking.
For championship attendance, a hire car still needs an authorised access plan. Read the driving guide and event transport advice before assuming the vehicle can reach the spectator entrance.
When a Dublin or Cork overnight helps
An overnight stop makes sense when it gives you a relaxed transfer the following morning, supports a late landing or protects an early return flight. Choose the location for the next stage: an airport-area hotel and a city room near a departure point solve different problems. Confirm any airport transfer and its operating times with the property itself.
Tell the accommodation about a late arrival, and read whether reception is staffed or access is self-service. If the stay is before an early departure, ask about breakfast and check-out arrangements. A booking that requires a fixed key collection window may be unsuitable for a flight arriving late in the evening.
Use the accommodation searches below to compare Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and the city base you intend to use. Balance the extra room night against a difficult late connection. It may also give companions a pleasant city outing before the golf part of the holiday begins.
Keep the Limerick arrival easy
After the intercity journey, make the last transfer straightforward. Save the accommodation’s precise address, check the distance from the arrival stop and choose a suitable option for the amount of luggage. A walk that looks short on a map can be less appealing in rain with several bags. Ask the host where a taxi can stop or how self-check-in works.
Use that evening to organise the next day’s golf departure. Put the relevant booking, ticket and transport instructions together, then leave time to eat and rest. Avoid planning a full sightseeing circuit simply because you arrived earlier than expected. That spare time is useful resilience in a journey involving several independent services.
If different friends are arriving through different airports, meet at the room rather than forcing a complicated airport rendezvous. One clear base and a shared evening meeting time can keep the trip simple.
Use current planners for times and return services
The Transport for Ireland planner and the rail or coach operator should supply the times for your actual date. Check both outward and return journeys, including engineering notices and any booking requirement. A timetable from the present season is useful for understanding the route, but it should not be copied into a fixed September 2027 connection.
Write down the last practical service that gets you to your booked room or airport, and leave a margin before it. The theoretical last departure is rarely a good target after a major sporting event. Keep a contact for the accommodation if a disruption changes your arrival and understand whether a revised intercity ticket will be needed.
For anyone who needs accessible transport, check each leg with the relevant provider. Step-free access at one station or an accessible airport bus does not by itself settle the whole chain.
Choose the base after the connection is workable
Limerick is a practical choice for visitors who want city evenings and an identified event-bus departure through Colbert. Adare suits a village-focused stay with its own settled transport arrangement. Pick the specific room only after checking how you will reach it from your chosen airport and how you will leave for the golf.
Compare the actual room type, cancellation deadline and payment conditions. Keep an overnight stop near the departure airport if the return flight would otherwise require a rushed early-morning journey across Ireland. That final night can be more useful than a nominal saving on a distant room.
Continue with the Ryder Cup hub, Adare and Limerick stays, Limerick visitor guide and day-by-day plan. The right flight is the one that fits a complete, comfortable trip.

Our suggestion: start with Adare for proximity or Limerick for a city base, then match the room to your confirmed tournament transport. The Ryder Cup competition runs from 17–19 September 2027, within the official event week of 13–19 September.

Getting to Adare Manor on Ryder Cup match days
Choose event transport before relying on the distance from a room to Adare. The organiser outlines a temporary-station rail connection, a Limerick Colbert event bus and paid park-and-ride, with no on-site spectator parking.
