The Open 2027 Tickets: Ballot & Resale

The 2027 Open ballot has closed. The R&A says further information about its official resale platform for St Andrews will be available in spring 2027, so use its own channels when looking for another opportunity.

Where the 2027 ballot stands

Confirmed: The R&A’s 2027 ticket information says the ballot closed at 3pm UK time on Friday 24 July 2026. A ballot application was a request for tickets, with allocations governed by the published conditions. If you applied, read the messages in your ticket account and the official correspondence rather than relying on another applicant’s experience.

Check which days, ages and quantities appear on any allocation before making travel arrangements. A group application can involve several different requirements, and a successful outcome is only useful if the people travelling can attend those dates. Keep the confirmation and payment information together. If something looks wrong, contact the official ticket team through the help centre rather than sending account information to someone offering help on social media.

What the official resale is for

Confirmed: The Open Help Centre describes a face-value resale route for eligible general admission tickets bought through the ballot and eligible Ticket Plus purchases. Its St Andrews article says more information will be available in spring 2027. That gives an unsuccessful applicant a channel to watch, while someone unable to travel should use the published seller instructions once available.

Do not assume the resale will contain every day, every category or enough tickets for a large party at the same moment. Decide which combinations your group can use. If a practice day would make an enjoyable trip, include it in your planning rather than treating it as a disappointment. The ability to be flexible is useful, but it should come from your own priorities rather than pressure to buy anything that appears.

If you missed the ballot entirely

Start with the official help article for people who missed the application deadline. Review the current ticket and hospitality pages for authorised options, then compare those with waiting for resale information. A travel-inclusive offer can solve several parts of a trip together, but read the inclusions carefully: accommodation, admission days, transfers and meals may be described separately.

Our suggestion: Write down your maximum complete trip budget before looking at premium alternatives. The amount available for admission changes once you include travel and a room. If the only available option would make the holiday uncomfortable financially, plan a different tournament or a later visit to St Andrews. There is plenty of golf worth travelling for without turning a missed ballot into an expensive emergency.

Avoid a ticket you cannot use

Read the current ticket terms for transfer, resale, identification and digital access. The R&A’s conditions control how its tickets may be sold and used. An attractive screenshot or a seller’s confident description cannot answer whether an admission will work for you at the gate. Navigate to the official website yourself rather than following an unexpected payment message.

Be particularly careful with an offer that combines a ticket with a room, transport or a playing round. Check whether the provider is authorised for the package it is selling, using the organiser’s own information. If you need help, ask the ticket office about the actual offer before paying. Keep correspondence and receipts, and do not share passwords or account access with another fan in order to complete a transaction.

Digital tickets and your travelling party

The R&A says tickets are digital and will be available to download nearer the championship. Use the official instructions for the relevant app or account when issued. Allow time at home to understand how each attendee receives and presents their admission. A phone that stores the booking email is not automatically ready to display a valid ticket.

If members of the group arrive separately, check the permitted ticket-sharing arrangements and complete them in advance. Carry a charged phone and appropriate backup power within the event’s bag rules. If someone does not use a smartphone, contact the ticket team early for the available assistance. It is far easier to solve a technology difficulty before travelling than while everyone is waiting beside a gate.

Accommodation while you wait

Our suggestion: Separate a speculative trip from a confirmed visit. If you reserve a room while waiting for tickets, choose cancellation terms you understand and can afford. Note the actual deadline, the payment schedule and any deposit. “Flexible” can describe several different conditions, so read the rate attached to the room you select rather than the property’s general description.

Agree what you will do if tickets never become available. You might still want a Scottish holiday, or you might cancel within the permitted period. That choice affects whether a provisional room is sensible. Our St Andrews stay guide compares bases, while the travel guide helps test whether a room further away fits the day you hope to attend.

Choosing between days and upgrades

A ticket decision should start with the experience you want. Watching preparation, following a favourite player and seeing the championship decided are different aims. Check the official schedule and what each product actually admits you to. An upgraded area may provide comfort or catering, but it does not automatically reserve a seat beside every green or shorten the journey from your hotel.

Read practice days versus championship days and hospitality explained before paying more for a label. For younger spectators, use the precise age conditions and any accompanying-adult requirements in the current offer. Keep age evidence available if requested. The right purchase is the ticket that works for your particular party, not simply the highest-priced product on the page.

Finish the plan after admission is settled

Once you hold usable tickets, match the room nights to the travel and leave time to enjoy the town. Check breakfast arrangements if you plan an early departure, and avoid an ambitious dinner reservation immediately after the last group. That extra flexibility often contributes more to a good holiday than squeezing another commitment into an already full golf day.

The Open visitor hub covers the wider championship experience. Compare it with the Ryder Cup hub if you are choosing between major events, and use the calendar for other possibilities. Save the official ticket pages and revisit them for the next published announcement. You can prepare a useful budget and shortlist of bases now without inventing a resale opening date.

Keep the lead booker organised

Our suggestion: If you are the person organising tickets, keep a clear list of who is using each admission and which day they are travelling. Share the plan with the group, including payment responsibilities and any deadlines that apply to them. Avoid collecting speculative commitments from friends who have not yet decided whether they can attend. A smaller party with agreed dates is easier to book than a large group whose needs change with every message. If someone withdraws, use the official transfer or resale instructions for the product you hold. Do not improvise a private arrangement simply because the rest of the group has already booked its room.
